Meet Your Instructor:
At four, Daniel was diagnosed learning disabled. In school, he battled depression, anxiety and hopelessness. At 15, he was fired from his first job for lack of motivation. In an attempt to help him, his parents bought him his own exercise equipment to give him an outlet. Daniel quickly fell in love with fitness and knew he wanted to pursue it as a career.
In 2011, Daniel Stein felt called to train children, adolescents, and adults with special needs. With certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT) and becoming a Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer, Daniel specializes in health and fitness for the special needs population.
In 2016, Daniel and his wife, Trinity, started Special Strong. The Special Strong Certification helps service providers and others learn effective techniques for meltdown management, motivation, challenge behaviors and more.
About the Fitness Certification:
In our fitness courses, you will learn how to use our CBSE training model to help you design adapted in-home or gym workout programs for any disability. You’ll also learn proven and effective methods for meltdown management, motivation and challenge behaviors.
The CBSE Training Model is the proud result of 75+ years of combined experience in the special needs industry with service provided to over 1,000 special needs clients with zero injuries. No fitness experience is required and course-takers learn simple, yet effective tools that they can start using right away.
About the Nutrition Certification:
In our nutrition course, you will learn how to use motivational interviewing and cognitive behavior therapy techniques to adapt to a variety of disabilities and promote behavior changes that improve nutritional status and overall health. You’ll learn effective methods for introducing new foods, establishing meal time routines, managing multiple dietary needs within the family, and establishing confidence to make healthy choices.
This nutrition course was created by a Registered Dietitian using evidenced based practice content from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and The American Academy of Pediatrics.

F A Q
Yes. Since the personal training industry is not governed by a state board, there are no no specific requirements to practice. We do recommend that you consider a nationally accredited training program to supplement your Special Strong certification, but this is not a requirement to train clients.
As a part of what is included in purchasing a course, you’ll be given the option to opt in or out of our online directory. If you decide to opt-in, we will include your photo and a bio with a unique URL. Once listed, you can be found by someone searching for the closest trainer in their zip code.
It really depends on your goals. At a minimum, you’ll have the knowledge you need to implement a fitness program for special needs. You can be found on our online database (if you opt-in to be listed). Additionally, many certified Special Strong trainers implement our program into their current practice with their current clients by offering fitness training as an additional service offering. You can also use our certification in home or at select facilities that approve our specialty certification. Since we are nationally accredited through several organizations, many independently owned facilities accept our certification.
You can call yourself a Special Strong trainer. You may list your Special Strong qualifications on a business card, resume, or website About/Qualifications page. Nothing more.
You cannot use the Special Strong name in any other business or promotional way unless you franchise with us. Only affiliation gives you the legal right to use the Special Strong name for business and/or promotional purposes. You can learn more about franchising here
Yes! Our certifications are recognized by NASM, AFAA, ACE, and NCTRC. Check out our approved providers page for more information. Additionally, other agencies may allow you to submit the course as a continuing education credit. Please contact your governing agency for more information.
Our course is an educational certification, so anyone can take the course and there are no prerequisites for enrollment. If at any point you plan to use our certification to work with others, you must have a valid CPR/AED certification.
We have a 95% pass rate on all of our course tests. The test is open book and you get three attempts. We also offer email or phone support if need additional help to ensure that you pass the test and understand the material.

You have one year from the purchase date to access the online course and take the test. Once you take the course and pass the test, you are certified for life!

It’s very common for companies to order courses for staff members, or an individual order courses as a gift for someone else. To accomplish this, simply place an order for the desired courses using your personal information. In the notes section of the order, indicate the names of the individuals you are purchasing the course for. Once your order is placed, you’ll receive an email that you can forward to the recipients that you bought the course for, allowing them to enroll in the online courses.
